National conferences are held and feature keynote speakers on a variety
of topics. These are designed to be helpful to as wide a range of
practitioners as possible.
Conference topics have included:
- "Good practice in balancing autonomy and protection in work with vulnerable adults"
- "Vulnerable adults: the legal and investigative framework - working together"
- "Interviewing victims in adult abuse work".
Speakers at seminars and conferences have included Dame Gillian Wagner, Penny Letts of the Law Society, Ian Chisholm, Head of the Victims and Procedures Unit at the Home Office, David Sheard, Dementia Care Consultant and Peter Lewis, Head of the Casework Division of the Crown Prosecution Service.
A network of local groups organise regular meetings with speakers and discussion on topics of particular interest. Participation in a local group helps practitioners identify local resources and expertise as well as providing support in what can be a stressful area of work, and an opportunity to discuss professional dilemmas and practice issues.
A quarterly Newsletter contains articles of interest featuring latest practice developments in vulnerable adult abuse in the UK and abroad. It keeps members abreast of legal developments and PAVA events nationally and locally. It offers a valuable forum for debate about practice and ethical issues.
Events are published in the local groups information pages, and general events are published in the news section.
